This is a faithful replica of a circa 1910 German teddy bear, which was inadvertently left behind at Bristol Airport in 2012, but re-united with his original owner 14 months later. This bear is now on display at Teddy Bears of Witney.
The replica is so extensively aged that he could easily be mistaken for the original! Made of aged and hand-plucked, old gold mohair, he (like the original) has just one button eye, a ‘worn’ nose with red felt visible below the thread, one partly unstitched ear, a hole in his tummy and re-covered, hand-painted foot pads. He comes with a Lost Property label, a copy of a 1918 postcard )featuring the original bear with the owner's 2 daughters) and a certificate. Our last few bears of the edition come with an additional hand-embroidered label sewn at the bottom of his back (see photo).
We have just found a cache of past Old Witney Favourites (between 1 and 10 of each) and there are a few Bristol’s amongst them. (For others please ring 01993 706616.)
