Characterised by a wide smile and jingle bell in each ear, Merrythought's iconic Cheeky Bear was created in 1955 by accomplished designer, Jean Barber.
At the 1958 British Industries Fair, Queen Elizabeth II was introduced to this new bear, then simply named 'Teddy T', and is said to have exclaimed; ‘What a cheeky little bear!’. This unique bear would thereafter always be known as ‘Cheeky Bear’.
Merrythought's new special edition Cheeky celebrates the 70th anniversary of its 'birth'.
Made of traditional, dense and lightly distressed, amber-gold mohair plush, he has bright orange and black safety eyes, chocolate-coloured, pure wool felt paws and a cotton velvet muzzle. He wears a powder blue, grosgrain ribbon neck bow.
Each Cheeky of the Special Edition is individually numbered, and comes with a pure cotton dust bag and a Certificate of Authenticity.
