“I wish to register a complaint”. So began one of the most famous British comedy sketches of all time, from ‘Monty Python’s Flying Circus’. This satire demonstrated the brilliance of the Monty Python team. It was first aired in 1969 and featured regularly in the group’s shows and live tours. This Steiff Teddy bear pays tribute to the John Cleese character, that of a customer complaining that the parrot purchased “not half an hour ago from this very boutique” is dead. Michael Palin, as the pet shop owner, protests that the Norwegian Blue (“beautiful plumage”) is only “resting”. As subsequent claims and denials only increase the absurdity, it is finally revealed that this is indeed, an “ex-parrot”!

The fully jointed bear is made of sparse and distressed, old gold mohair with black safety eyes. He wears a grey, heavy cotton coat with the Monty Python’s Flying Circus emblem on the back. The Monty Python signature trademark is printed on one footpad. The parrot, made of blue, beige and white mohair with a felt tail and wings, is stitched to the bear’s right wrist.
