Made of distressed, caramel mohair, this small non-jointed, sleeping bear cub has stitched eyes and a felt open mouth and rear paw pads, all with airbrushed detail. ‘Zotty’ is short for zottelig (shaggy in German). Zotty bear cubs, with their open smiling mouths and back-facing hands, were very popular in Germany and the US from the 1950s to the 70s. Never with button but in mint condition with chest tag and original ribbon a well as a hand-written Steiff archive label dated 1970 (see photo).
