In 1908 Steiff offered six coloured bears to their dealers in London. Four of these – pink, yellow, green and black were never seen again until recently, when the black sample was discovered in the collection of a passionate English collector.
This is a replica of that bear, which the Steiff company believe to be unique.
Made of aged black mohair with black-lacquered wooden eyes, and felt paw pads, he has a pearl thread nose, a dusky pale pink and pearl thread mouth and unusual, red-stitched claws. Traditionally filled with wood shavings, he growls when turned backwards. His patinated steel button and white ear tag is similar to those on the 1908 original. He comes with a certificate in a presentation box. a limited edition of 1908.
